The Olympic flame will be lit in France on July 26, but the road to this summer’s biggest sports forum is far from smooth. A deficit has appeared in the budget. As recently as March, there was optimism that the games would be organized for the initially planned nine billion euros, but now a different picture has opened up.
No one has been able to put an exact figure on how much the Paris Games will end up costing. The organizers do not hide that the budget has reached more than 10 billion euros. Therefore, the organizers are looking in the direction of the French government, which should find more funds in French pockets for the games. “We have reached a risk zone,” a French government source told AFP.
Last week, however, the French Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudeau-Castre, comforted everyone who was worried about the Olympic Games. The government has prepared for contingencies. “There is no reason to think that we are missing something,” reported “Inside The Games”, referring to the words of the French sports minister.
