In January, Xavi announced that despite his new contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2025, he would step down as head coach at the end of this season.
On the other hand, on Wednesday, after the meeting of the club’s board, the sports director of “Barcelona” and also the president of the club met with Xavi. After negotiations, all parties have decided that Xavi will continue to manage the Barcelona team until the end of the next season.
Xavi took the helm of “Barcelona” in November 2021 and led the Barcelona team to the Spanish championship title in the previous season.
As a footballer, Xavi joined the “Barcelona” team in 1991 at the age of 11. He played more than 760 games in its composition, which is a record among all football players.
The Spaniard won the UEFA Champions League four times and won the Spanish Championship eight times as part of Barcelona. In 2015, however, he left the club to continue his career in Qatar, where he was initially a player in the “Al Sadd” team, and later – as a coach.
Also, Xavi is the winner of the 2010 World Cup. The midfielder played 133 matches in the Spanish national team, scoring 13 goals, two of them in matches against the Latvian national team.
“Barcelona” ranks second in the Spanish football championship with 70 points in 32 games.
