The whole team fights from the heart in the world championship and enjoys every day, emphasized Daugavins. He thanked every fan for the unforgettable emotions brought to the hockey players.
“We always believed that we would win,” said Daugavins. “Also in the locker room after the second period [rezultāts 1:1] we said – we just have to win one period, and we got it.
Daugavins emphasized that he will have to work on something in order to take revenge on Canada for the loss in the group stage. The captain is convinced that the Latvian national team has by no means reached the ceiling, and he always sets high goals for himself, so that there is something to strive for.
“That’s not all. I hope that the coolest day in my career is yet to come,” said Daugavins.
Conversation with Mika Indraši
Goal scorer Miks Indrašis was the first to reveal his impressions after the victory, admitting that he is overcome with such strong emotions that it is difficult to even say anything. He also down-to-earthly appreciated the importance of his goal, saying that it would have been just as well done by someone else.
“I can’t… I have nothing to say. Everything was visible on the pitch, in the stands, everywhere. Fantastic, it’s simply fantastic,” Indrashis said in an outburst of emotion. “Everything is just beginning now. We are humming.”
It has already been announced that the victory over Sweden allowed the Latvian national team to enter the semi-finals of the world championship for the first time. Playing for a place in the final, the Latvians will meet the Canadians on Saturday in the Finnish city of Tampere, and on Sunday they will fight for gold or bronze medals.
