Differences between Israel and Hamas in the cease-fire talks regarding the duration of the pause in hostilities

On Thursday, representatives of the parties involved in the conflict ended two days of talks and, as an Egyptian official told the state-linked channel “Al-Qahera News”, representatives of Egypt, Qatar and the United States are still trying to reconcile the two parties involved in the conflict.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, in a conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, agreed that Israel and Hamas should be more flexible in order to conclude a ceasefire agreement.

The representatives of the “Hamas” group think that Israel has rejected the truce plan proposed by the mediators and everything is now in Tel Aviv’s hands. Meanwhile, several sources have told CNN that in the latest cease-fire offer, “Hamas” demanded that Israel agree to a 12-week pause in hostilities, not six. Israel has strongly rejected this offer precisely because of the length of this pause before the release of the prisoners took place.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear in his speech dedicated to Israel’s Independence Day that the fight against Hamas militants will continue.

“Today we are much stronger. We are stronger, more determined and more united to defeat our enemy. If we have to stand alone, we will stand alone. I have already said if we have to, we will fight with our claws. But we have more than claws. With this only by the power of the spirit and God’s help will we win,” Netanyahu said.

Although the above can be considered an indirect criticism towards Washington, the head of the government of Israel, in a conversation broadcast on Friday night with the American talk show host Phil McGraw, expressed hope for the resumption of the supply of weapons to the United States, indicating that Israel would be interested in more accurate weapons.

“If we want to avoid civilian casualties, that’s exactly what’s needed, not inaccurate weapons. I’ve known Joe Biden for over 40 years. We’ve often had commonalities and differences that we’ve been able to overcome. I hope we can overcome them now.” .

But we will do what must be done to protect our country. And that also means protecting your future. This means that we will fight in “Hamas”, including in Rafah. We have no other choice,” said the head of the Israeli government.

It has already been reported that the US opposes a large-scale Israeli ground military operation. News portal “Axios” reported in the last few hours that Secretary of State Blinken will submit a report to the US Congress in the near future, which criticizes the actions of the Israeli armed forces in the Gaza Strip, but which concludes that Israel has not violated the agreement on the use of American weapons in the war zone.

On the other hand, the position of the US president continues to attract criticism from both opposition Republicans and members of the ruling Democratic Party.
