In the last round of the competition, Latvian checkers beat the previous world champions, the Netherlands, securing gold medals. The world champion in rapid checkers, international master Yeļena Chesnokova and young talented checkers international master candidates Malvīne and Alice Misānes played in the Latvian national team.

Polish women took second place, while the Dutch team secured the bronze.

In the last round, the Latvian men’s national team played to a draw with the tournament leader, the Dutch team. As a result, the Latvian national team, which featured international grandmasters Guntis Valneris and Raimonds Vipulis and international master Roberts Misāns, won second place and silver medals.

The first place and gold medals were won by the Dutch checkers, while the bronze medals were won by the Lithuanian team, which defeated the Israeli team in a decisive match.

In the Portuguese city of Albufeira, the world team championship for women and men in 100 checkers with classical time control took place until May 6. Both Latvian national teams will participate in the world team championship with rapid checkers time control on May 7, and on May 8, the battles will continue in the world team championship with rapid game time control.
