Moats are being dug on the eastern border

Defense ditches were dug on the eastern border of Latvia today.

This marks the beginning of the military strengthening of Latvia’s eastern border.

It is part of the creation of the Baltic defense line.

It is planned to build support points for the National Armed Forces units along the entire border of Russia and Belarus – various obstacles, anti-tank ditches, ammunition and mine depots.

“New Unity” applies to KNAB

The association of political parties “Jaunā Vienotība” has applied to the Bureau of Prevention and Combating of Corruption (KNAB) with an application for conducting covert pre-election campaigning against “Jaunā Vienotība”.

The party association claims that someone wants to undermine its reputation and reduce its popularity during the primaries.

“Jaunā Vienotība” released this statement two days after the head of the information technology company “SOAAR” announced the attempt of the former general secretary of “Vienotības” Artas Kampars to influence the results of the Saeima elections held ten years ago.

First foreign visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs

The new foreign minister, Baiba Braže, went on her first foreign visit today.

Usually Latvian foreign ministers visit the Baltic countries on their first visit, but Braže broke this tradition and went to Ukraine.

There, the minister met with several Ukrainian officials, including Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleb, and discussed Latvia’s assistance to Ukraine.

Presents the annual Foreign Investor Environment Index

The Council of Foreign Investors in Latvia presented today the annual Environmental Index of Foreign Investors.

The study concluded that foreign investors rated the investment environment in Latvia last year at the lowest level so far – 1.9 points out of five.

Foreign investors in Latvia are currently cautious.

The proportion of entrepreneurs who plan to invest in Latvia in the future has decreased.

Investors believe that the shadow economy and bureaucracy are among the most important things that should be addressed in order for Latvia to become more accessible and understandable to foreign companies.

The board of the “European Railways” company resigns

Kaspars Vingris, the chairman of the board of the company “Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnias”, which implemented the railway project “Rail Baltica” in Latvia, has resigned.

Board member Arnis Staltmanis also resigned.

The Ministry of Transport has convened an emergency meeting of the company’s members next week.

Accusation against the former mayor of Rēzekne, Bartašević

The prosecutor’s office has filed an indictment against the former mayor of Rēzekne, Aleksandar Bartašević from the “Together Latvijai” party, for disclosing restricted information to his wife.

On the other hand, the Office for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption is proposing to accuse Bartasevic for providing false information in the declaration in yet another criminal trial.

For 16 years, Bartasevičs has not provided complete information about transactions in the declarations of a public official.

The value of these unreported transactions is almost 270,000 euros.

The Riga city council calls for a ban on the march in support of Palestine

The deputy chairman of the Riga City Council, Linda Ozola from the “Code for Riga” faction, calls on the city’s executive director Jānis Langi to ban the march “in support of Palestine” announced in Riga tomorrow.

Ozola explained to Latvijas Radio that in the previous march in February, the same marchers pledged not to allow manifestations of anti-Semitism, but there have been such cases.

Riga executive director Jānis Lange announced that, after evaluating the information provided by the security authorities, he saw no reason to prevent the event from taking place.

“eSignature” will not be available on the weekend

“eParaksta” tools will not be available in Latvia during the weekend, as equipment will be modernized.

This is reported by the Latvian State Radio and Television Center.

If you plan to sign some documents at the weekend, you should hurry to do it today, because you won’t be able to do it tomorrow.

The Latvian State Radio and Television Center also urges to beware of fraudsters who might try to take advantage of this situation to try to defraud data with the help of fraudulent e-mails or text messages.

The former Speaker of the Saeima, Alfreds Čepānis, has passed away

Alfreds Čepānis, a supporter of the restoration of Latvia’s independence and former member of the Saeima, died at the age of 80.

He voted for the restoration of Latvia’s independence 34 years ago.

Later, he was a member of two Saeimas and also the chairman of the parliament.
