Wednesday, April 3, from From 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the public awareness campaign organized by the State Medicines Agency will take place “Do you take medicines? Observe side effects? Report!” opening event – expert discussion/exchange of ideas.
The results of a survey of the population of Latvia last December show that a total of 22% of respondents have experienced side effects of medicines in the last 20 years and a total of 72% of the population who have experienced side effects of medicines indicate that they have reported them to a doctor, pharmacist, nurse, the State Medicines Agency or a pharmaceutical company.
Such citizens’ reports make it possible to discover new, important, even rare side effects of medicines in time and supplement the instructions for use and drug descriptions with them, warn doctors, pharmacists and patients, as well as recommend measures to prevent or reduce the risk of side effects.
At the opening event, experts will present the results of the Latvian population survey of last December, the planned activities of the information campaign, the current situation with drug side effects reports, as well as emphasize the reasons why citizens should report the observed drug side effects, and tell how to submit such a report most conveniently.
