On May 10, 2024 – Students studying in elementary school and their parents are invited to get acquainted with the newly established International School of Science and Technology of Riga Technical University (RTU), or RTU International School of Science and Technology (ISST), by attending the school’s Open Day, which will take place on May 13, 16.30-19.00 at ISST’s new headquarters – RTU’s student campus in Ķīpsala, in RTU’s Scientific Library, Paula Valdena street 5. Potential ISST students will have the opportunity to get to know the school’s director Dmitri Vinogradov and the teaching staff, as well as learn about admission rules, entrance exams, planned studies and extracurricular activities, as well as getting to know the school’s headquarters – the RTU student campus.

The new school, which will be taught in English according to the Cambridge A and AS level programme, will open its doors this autumn. The mission of the school is to gather talented young people not only from Latvia, but also from other countries, offering them quality education and a unique cooperation platform so that they become future leaders.

At the open day, visitors will be able to learn about the Cambridge-level program offered by ISST, which meets the Cambridge-level educational assessment (Cambridge Assessment International Education). It is a program certified in 160 countries around the world, which provides students with a comprehensive and competitive education, as well as a solid foundation for academic and professional success. Graduates of the school will have the opportunity to study at the most prestigious universities in the world, given their excellent level of knowledge that meets international standards.

During the event, those interested will be able to familiarize themselves with the RTU student campus – faculties and laboratories where ISST students will study, opening up wider opportunities to use the university’s resources in the learning process. According to the Cambridge system, students will learn English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and other subjects. A special program is being created that will help improve students’ personality and leadership skills. It is also intended to provide students with individual support so that they can continue their academic career in the most suitable higher education institution for each.

Admission of students to ISST will be done by prospective students taking an entrance test in English, mathematics and logic, as well as participating in an interview. The exam is expected on June 1. ISST welcomes students from Latvia and other countries who have high academic achievements and who want to build their career in STEM fields. Already in 2015, RTU founded a similar secondary education institution – RTU Engineering High School (IZV), giving talented Latvian youth the opportunity to learn exact and natural sciences at a particularly high level. IZV students have lived up to the expectations of the founders, excellently demonstrating their knowledge at the local and international level. There is a lot of interest in studies at IZV – there are about 10 applicants for one study place.
