On May 17, you are invited to get to know the profession of firefighter rescuers

Celebrating the Day of Firefighters and Rescuers and the 159th anniversary of Firefighting in Latvia, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) is holding an Open Day on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This will take place in all 90 fire stations in Latvia, including the one in Jelgava at Dobeles Street 16. On this day, Jelgava firefighters and rescuers will be waiting for everyone who is interested.

Young and old visitors will be able to get acquainted with the everyday life of fire rescuers, see the fire station and VUGD equipment. In addition, the Jelgava part will have a unique opportunity to explore rescue and chemical vehicles, which are designed to prevent serious road traffic accidents, building collapses and chemical spills.

Visitors will also be able to try on a firefighter’s protective suit in 45 seconds, as well as receive answers to interesting questions, including fire safety and opportunities to become a firefighter in the future.

Families and individual visitors do not need to pre-register for the Open House. On the other hand, in order for the organizers of the event to be able to organize a steady flow of visitors in the Jelgava part throughout the day, groups are invited to apply by calling the acting commander of the Jelgava part, Edgars Medni, at 29327221.

It should be noted that the VUGD website has educational materials for different age groups – worksheets, presentations, tests and others. Materials are available HERE
