Bird Days 2024 was held in April under the leadership of the Latvian Ornithological Society in many places in Latvia, inviting people to observe the migration of spring migratory birds and to prepare cages for the birds for the nesting season. In total, 47 events were held in various places in Latvia, where more than 2,600 event participants were involved in winged activities.
“We were happy to conclude that birdwatching in various formats – hiking, cycling, observation towers – and bird cage workshops fascinate both young and old alike. We hope that participation in the Bird Days is an opportunity for event visitors to look at nature with different eyes, thus realizing their complicity in nature protection,” he says. The Ornithological Society of Latvia invites you not only to observe birds, but also to report your observations. Especially this year, information about white stork nests and progress in them is awaited, because this year also the 8th International white stork nest census is taking place in Latvia, which takes place once every ten years. Everyone is invited to register observations of birds, as well as their nests, on the nature observation portal or mobile app Dabasdati.lv
In autumn, European Birdwatching Days will take place on the first weekend of October, 5 and 6 October.
