Complaints about the attitude of the Riga City Council towards tourism service providers

Theoretically, buses are currently based only 200 meters away from the previous starting point, but this is too much of a challenge for tourists. Since the change of location, the number of transported tourists has significantly decreased.

Over the past year, we have received several hundred complaints that they cannot find where the bus stops. They bought the tickets on the Internet, then they try to find a stop. You can see that the buses are running, but it is impossible to understand where to go. Compared to previous years, there are now three times less tourists. They are in Riga, but they cannot find our buses.

Businessmen have repeatedly contacted representatives of the local authority and asked for the opportunity to return to the vicinity of Strēlnieku Square, but they have not yet received the green light. In the current parking lot, buses are only allowed to park for 10 minutes, and the free spaces are often occupied by international carriers, which worsens the situation even more.

The Department of Transport states that buses will no longer be allowed to return to Strelnieku Square in the immediate vicinity, there are also a small number of bus parking spaces in the center of the capital. The 10-minute limit is unlikely to be revised, it was installed with the idea of having more bus rotation.

The tourism curators of the capital state that guests of the city are told about the possibility to go out by bus, but the best way to see and get to know Riga is on foot.

Soon, however, it is planned to replace the informative map in Strēlnieku Square, which will also contain information about the new location of the buses. Tourism curators say that city guests like trips around the old town by electric train, as well as seeing Riga by boat on the canal.
