President of the State: Gulbene district uses the opportunities provided by the European Union thoughtfully – Events

On May 9, Europe Day, State President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited Gulbene region on a working visit. At the beginning of the working visit, E. Rinkēvičs met with the leadership of the Gulbene district and invited the active young people of the district to a conversation in the youth center “Bāze”. The President also visited the Gulbene County Library and the Europe Direct Center, and in Jaungulbene he went to the social care center “Jaungulbenes Alejas”. The President of the State got acquainted with the current affairs of business and the future development plans of entrepreneurs, while visiting the companies SIA “Avoti” and SIA “Dimdiņi” in Lizum parish. But at the end of the working visit, the President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with local residents and journalists.

“Today, in Gulbene county, I had the opportunity to see how the county management, residents and businessmen thoughtfully use the opportunities provided by the European Union – both the transfer of knowledge and the attraction of European Union funds – to promote the development of the county and the well-being of the residents. Young people are involved in various cooperation projects, the residents are being improved necessary services. The county is developing – this can be seen in urban projects, as well as by visiting Gulbene county businessmen and listening to their future plans,” State President Edgars Rinkevičs admitted after a working visit to Gulbene county.

In the Gulbene county library, the President got acquainted with the collection and services available there, met with the employees, and also visited Europe Direct in the information center, where they voted for their most important European Union (EU) values. Europe Direct the information center provides citizens with easily accessible information about the EU’s areas of activity.

Later, at the “Jaungulbenes Alejas” social care center, President E. Rinkēvičs met with seniors, center employees and doctors, as well as took a look at music therapy and social rehabilitation classes.

In Lizuma Parish, the President got acquainted with the activities of the leading solid wood furniture manufacturing company in Latvia SIA “Avoti” and the vegetable growing and processing company SIA “Dimdiņi”.

At the end of the working visit, the President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the residents of Gulbene region, answering their pressing questions, and also gave an interview to the local newspaper.
