On Valdeķu Street, a boy tried to catch up with his friends, but this time his audacity led to sad consequences. Having quickly approached the edge of the road at the pedestrian crossing, the guy calmed down for a moment, but at the last moment decided to cross the street.
“I heard that there was an impact,” says eyewitness Darja.
The eyewitness says that after a short time, law enforcement officers and medics arrived at the scene of the traffic accident. The young woman believes that the driver of the car is not to blame for the incident, the boy on the “zebra” appeared suddenly, without leaving enough safe distance for the braking distance. The driver could not react.
“There were a lot of kids there who had gone over. This guy thought he had to drive and the car couldn’t stop,” says the eyewitness.
Other residents of the neighborhood I met have similar thoughts about what happened. Although the traffic flow in the densely populated micro-district is quite intense, the people admit that the drivers follow the traffic rules and the permissible speed of movement of vehicles in this section of the street, which is thirty – without trying to exceed it. Sometimes, however, it happens that drivers do not stop at the pedestrian crossing.
“It wasn’t the driver’s fault, it was the child – he ran as he ran,” says Raita, a resident of the neighborhood.
After the collision, the injured boy was taken to the hands of medics. Locals have not heard of similar cases and generally feel safe when crossing the street in the designated area.
