The State Police in Jelgava has arrested a May 9th celebrant who shot at a cemetery with a gas gun, the State Police informed.

Until 5:00 p.m., the State Police arrested 11 persons in connection with violations of public order and security on May 9, initiated two criminal proceedings and 32 administrative violation proceedings.

The most violations were found in the Latgale region – 14 administrative violation proceedings and one criminal proceeding, 11 administrative violation proceedings were initiated in the Riga region, one criminal proceeding and one administrative violation proceeding in the Zemgale region, and three administrative violation proceedings in the Kurzeme region.

In the Jelgava cemetery, a man shot three times in the air with a gas pistol in order to glorify the aggressor country. Both the criminal process for the justification of genocide, crime against peace, and war crimes, as well as the administrative process for the use of a gas weapon, have been started for the incident.

The second criminal trial, which started in Daugavpils, was reported earlier. In this case, the arrested person ran in front of the journalists’ cameras and pretended to be the leader of the neighboring country, Vladimir Putin.

Evaluating the rest of the detected violations, the absolute majority is about public glorification of military aggression and war crimes – both the use of prohibited symbols in a public place and the placing of flowers in the places where the dismantled Soviet monuments were located. Among these violations, the use of Georga tapes, the public playing of Russian war songs, various inscriptions and pins on clothes related to the aggressor state, as well as the chanting of various phrases glorifying the aggressor state by individual persons were found. Disobedience to law enforcement officers has also been established.

The State Police, in cooperation with the State Security Services, municipal police, as well as other services, continues to work in an intensified mode, monitoring public order and security throughout Latvia. At the same time, the Internet environment is also monitored.

Residents who have information about provocations planned for May 9 – demonstrative or defiant actions with the aim of dividing society or spreading messages in line with Russia’s interests are invited to provide this information to the VDD by calling the 24-hour phone number 67208964 or writing to the e-mail address “dd@vdd .gov.lv”.

On the other hand, upon witnessing such activities on May 9, residents are invited to immediately inform the State Police about them by calling 110.

It has already been reported that on May 9, the State Police and the State Security Service will intensify security monitoring throughout Latvia and promise a “clear and decisive” response to provocations when the glorification of Russian aggression and war crimes is recorded.
