“Zinitis” invites you to the Family Day on May 18
On May 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Children’s and Youth Library “Zinītis” invites you to the Family Day, which this time is dedicated to the World Bee Day, with a wide and educational program.
The purpose of World Bee Day is to draw public attention to the important role of bees in biological diversity, as well as to their decreasing number in the world. Pollinators, most commonly honeybees, influence a third of our food availability and ability to grow it. On Family Day in the library, on this day you will be able to get to know pollinators and nectarifers in educational posters and books, taste a variety of honey and meet a beekeeper who will tell you about bees and honey, show you the beekeeper’s equipment and answer questions about beekeeping.
Families with children under the age of 8 are invited to attend the “Insect Ball” program of the attractive poet and writer Evija Gulbe, which was created in honor of the book “Bizbizmāsiņa” and reminds: “even if you are small, you can become a big friend to someone”, and soon after, also to be present at the opening ceremony of Sanita Tukre’s interactive book of poems “Runcis Rencis dodas stje”.
Family day program:
At 10:30 a.m. – meeting with beekeeper and researcher Nauri Bēržinus from the Latvian Beekeeping Society (LBB) and honey tasting. In good weather, the yard is open for working with a beehive (without bees) and taking photos (for families with children without age restrictions)
From 12:00 to 13:00 – a meeting with the writer and poet Evia Gulbi. Children’s program “Bug Ball” (for families with children aged 3 to 8 years)
From 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – the opening celebration of Sanita Tukre’s book “Runcis Rencis dodas stje” (for families with children up to 11 years old).
- Meeting with the author and taking a photo with the cat Renci
- Popcorn, photo corner, book sale (autograph and gift for purchase).
- Interactive book presentation.
- Creative workshops: “Beeswax cloths” for mothers, “Crepe paper flowers” for children.
On the other hand, throughout the day, families are invited to participate in the competition “Compose a crossword puzzle about beekeeping!” and win prizes from the Latvian Beekeeping Society, get to know different types of honey and complete www.bisudraugs.eu tests to find out your honey taste, interactively work with the tasks of Sanita Tukre’s poetry books in a special application, as well as learn about “Pollinators and Nectarists” in educational posters. But the animators “Rosīgās bītī” will go to play and take photos with the children.
In addition, several exhibitions can be viewed on Family Day: photo exhibition of LBB members “Drava in the summer”, illustration exhibition “Koko and Rico” by Linda Loshina, exhibition “Deichman family hedgehog collection” and book exhibition “Insects on the pages of books”.
The family day is organized in cooperation with the Latvian Beekeeping Society.
