In the spirit of Mother’s Day, the association “Hands some Feet” (Finland/Australia), known for cheerful circus performances of various disciplines for all generations, will perform in the Riga circus. The show “Colorsphere” addressed to the audience of children and families will be shown in Riga on May 17 and 18.

The performance Colorsphere” (https://cirks.lv/jaunumi/izrade-gimenem-hands-some-feet-colorsphere-somija/), which continues the opening season of the Riga Circus Arena, is told in the language of juggling, acrobatics and miracles a heartfelt story of exploration, change and adaptation to a new environment. Four curious explorers find themselves in the Colorsphere, a colorless world inhabited by multi-headed creatures. Everything changes with the arrival of a colored ball in the world of Colorsphere – an endless series of transformations begins. In the production, the inhabitants of the Colorsphere are represented by the counterparts of a tennis ball machine, which sends balls at a speed of 80 km/h.

Turk, when visiting the show, you will have the opportunity not only to observe the Colorsphere from the outside, but also to get into it yourself – an installation accompanying the show will be installed in the circus premises, which will invite you to experience the reality of the production before and after the show.

Director of the Riga Circus Mara Pavula: “During the opening season, we want to mark the circus as a family-friendly place where vivid memories of outstanding artistic adventures are created. Circus art is able to speak about courage, cooperation and change, in the language of movement miracles that everyone can understand.”

Creative director of Riga Circus Mārtiņš Ķibers tells: Following with interest the stage activities of the association “Hands some Feet”, it is noticeable that all their shows are very exciting and successful – both those created for an audience of adults and those created for an audience of children and even babies. “Colorsphere” is a light and humorous production. Its creators are two couples of circus artists who have small children themselves – and they are able to appeal to audiences of different ages with great skill, and the performances are designed in such a way as to keep the attention of adults as well.

Hands some Feet is a circus group from Tampere, Finland. The artists have been producing shows since 2018 and have performed in many places in Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe.

Visitors to the show will also have the opportunity to view the historical poster and photograph included in the program of the opening season exhibition “Fun Metamorphoses” subject, textual and photographic journey from more than 100 years of circus history to the more recent past (https://cirks.lv/jaunumi/vesturisko-plakatu-izstade-västibas-metamorfozes/).

Context information:

Throughout 2024, the Riga Circus celebrates its 135th anniversary and the opening season of the circus arena – after the implementation of energy efficiency works, as well as the technical equipment of the arena, high-quality large-format circus performances and other cultural events can take place in the circus arena. This season, the Riga Circus will feature both guest performances from other countries that have gained international recognition, as well as self-produced performances.

The reconstruction project of the circus building developed by the architect office NRJA (No Rules Just Architecture) foresees other works in the future, which include the improvement of the territory and the construction of the circus school building, as well as the extreme renovation works of the facade of the Riga Circus (Merķeļa Street 4) – including the restoration works of the historical stairs .
