Violations of Laima Lux

In the editorial office of LA.LV, we received a letter from a gentleman who wished to remain anonymous (his identity is known in the editorial office), but he shared his experience at the “Laima Lux” salon, located in Riga, on Brīvības Street. I had to experience unpleasant moments there myself, and the emotions have not subsided when looking for more information about this company on the Internet.

The man used the services of the salon last fall, where, according to him, he received moral and physical damage related to low-quality, sloppy service from the young employee, who did not know the national language.

The man wanted to use the services of a hairdresser in the salon.

“2023. In the autumn season of 2018, I had made an appointment with a hairdresser at the salon “Laima Lux” by telephone, however, later, when I arrived for my appointment, the administrator of “Laima Lux” explained that the “master” does not speak/understand Latvian. Before making an appointment with the hairdresser, I was not informed by phone that the master does not speak the national language. In addition, the young appearance of the employee indicated that the hairdresser was not an experienced employee to be a “master” with relevant experience in the beauty industry, therefore, during the procedure, this hairdresser’s unprofessionalism, sloppiness and inadequate result were observed, which was based on the language barrier between me as a client and the young hairdresser .”

After the visit, the man was so angry that he submitted a claim to the Laima Vaikule salon for inadequate, low-quality service, as a result of which the administrator offered to return the money for the service in the amount of 30 euros, admitting that the service was not adequate. However, at the same time, it was also announced that the salon wants to end cooperation with the man.

The man also contacted the State Language Center, informing them about the situation. Cents has confirmed that persons who do not speak the national language at least at a conversational level may not work in the service sector in Latvia.

“Not long after that, at my request, the State Labor Inspection conducted an inspection in this salon in connection with a violation of work safety, when the young master used an electric hair straightener unprofessionally. Later, I again contacted the administrator of “Laima Lux” on the phone indicated by the salon, asking how I could contact the manager of the company to find a settlement related to compensation for poor quality/harmful service. On that, Ginta, the salon’s administrator, threatened me over the phone with a showdown.

I believe that such an attitude on the part of the administrator of “Laima Lux” was inadequate, violating generally accepted ethical norms, therefore, regarding the expressed threats and the experienced situation with the young master, who does not know the national language, I appealed to the State Police, whose inspector then conducted preventive discussions with the salon’s administrator .

On January 29, 2024, I tried to contact this salon again via the phone indicated by “Laima Lux” in order to agree with the manager on compensation for the damage caused, but the salon administrator hung up on me.

Based on the fact that before performing the hairdressing service in the “Laima Lux” salon, I was not warned in advance by phone that the master intended for me does not speak the national language and has minimal experience in the beauty industry (the master was a young woman of about 20 years old), on the basis that the service ( washing and straightening hair with an electric hair straightener) was performed in poor quality, chaotically pulling and burning the hair with the heating element of the electric hair straightener, the temperature of which may have been inadequately high (exceeding the 200 degree mark), causing frontal hair breakage in the temple area, as well as creating thermal damage in all medium-length hair, elementary work safety was violated and communication between me and the “masters” was impossible at the time of service. Therefore, I submitted a pre-trial warning in writing to Andrejas Latkovskis, the chairman of the board of the “Laima Lux” company – the spouse of Laima Vaikule, in which I described that I want to receive compensation of 700 euros from the company by March 22, 2024,” the former client of the salon recounts the events.

After the specified deadline, he again contacted the chairman of the board of “Laima Lux”, Andrej Latkovski, who had already familiarized himself with the description of the problem situation, and said: “We apologize, but we will not pay you a single kopeck. If you ever need a haircut again, go elsewhere!”

“It follows from this that the board of the salon does not care about satisfied customers of Latvian nationality who do not know Russian at a conversational level in order to communicate with the “Laima Lux” hairdressers.”

After all this, Mr. Vīlies did a more thorough research and found the information attached in the gallery to this article. Liana Lang has also publicly expressed her dissatisfaction with the lack of use of the national language in the salon, people are also expressing their indignation about it in various forums, while the company’s website and social networks contain a series of texts with errors, thus once again demonstrating lack of knowledge of the language. Language punctuation, spelling and style errors are visible in the texts (see screenshots in the attached gallery).

“2024. In April 2018, in the “Forums” section of the website dieviete.lv, under the complaint about low-quality service in the “Laima Lux” salon, I noticed the comments written on February 23, 2024 by an employee of the salon, Genadija (nickname used on the Internet: Yar1) (see the material in the attached gallery), which are aimed at inciting national, ethnic hatred or discord among the population of Latvia.

His comments are written in Russian, using aggressive expressions and unwanted vocabulary. I found that the administration of the website dieviete.lv has deleted some comments based on non-compliance with the forum’s rules of use.
I have reported Andrei Latkovski and Gennady Yaroslav Romanchenko to the State Security Service in connection with their statements in telephone conversations and in the form of comments on the Internet.”

LA.LV will continue to follow the development of events, and also invites you to report situations where you have encountered this or other injustice, to e-mail [email protected]!
