The winners of the ten school stage will compete for the Daugavpils Reading Aloud Champion title and a ticket to the intermediate finals of Latgale region.

In March, April and May, the 1st stage of the competition took place in Daugavpils educational institutions – the reading champion of each school was determined. The evaluation was based on such criteria as the justification for choosing the book, the appropriate use of emphasis, clear diction and the ability to interest with one’s reading.

Elizabete Mozumača (Daugavpils Vienības Elementary School), Edgars Romancevičs (Daugavpils Technological High School-Lyceum), Jana Isakova (Daugavpils Central High School), Evelina Klimenkova (Daugavpils State City High School), Vadims Gavrišs (Daugavpils 11 . elementary school), Luize Lukyanenko (Daugavpils Saskaņa elementary school), Loreta Užule (Daugavpils Science High School), Edgars Stanevičs (Daugavpils Friendly Vocational High School), Milana Gasperoviča (J. Raina Daugavpils 6th elementary school). Each school champion will be accompanied to the competition by his teacher and closest fans, who are invited to make posters and support their own.

The winner/s of the intermediate final of Latgale region will continue the competition in the national final on October 5 at the National Library of Latvia. The National Reading Champion will become the Children’s Director of the Latvian National Library and will represent his school in various events promoting reading.

The purpose of the aloud reading competition is to promote children’s interest in books and reading, promote the joy of reading and involve children in joint reading activities. For reading aloud, the participants choose a passage of the book they like and prepare a three-minute long speech, which begins with a brief overview of the choice of book and the outline of the plot up to the point from which they will start reading.
