Anita Mellupe is from the fraternity of journalists, but she just wants to be counted among the “emotional historians”, because ten documentary books have already been written. She also calls herself not a publicist and a book publisher, but laconically – a bookseller.
Fellowship of Booksellers
Booksellers are like a big community, they know each other and their paths inevitably cross. They generously exchange books and information, constantly expanding their circle of acquaintances. “I will mention a recent meeting. An ardent reader from Valmiera accidentally got her hands on a book that could not be bought in a store Time of Fates 1988-2023, We met Gunta just as unexpectedly, and I found out: she couldn’t tear herself away from the thick book already on the first night – she closed the last page around six in the morning already with a magnifying glass in her hands! Book lovers hunt for books, but more often books find them.”
Moving to Limbaži to be closer to her youngest granddaughter, Elsa, Anita hoped that she would be able to live peacefully, because the active period of publishing books is over and hardly anyone will recognize her here. “I didn’t notice that the newcomers were noticed right away. Many greeted and remembered that I had visited the library, the cultural center, the Theater house. And they told me what they had read, in which of my books they even found information about their loved ones. That’s how the circle expands,” says Anita and does not deny , that it warms the heart.
