“It feels like you’re immortal? But you’ll take others with you!” Will higher penalties for speeding have any effect?

Whatever the officials and politicians say, but increasing the penalties for violations of the permitted driving speed is one of the tools to some extent, it also brings good money to the budget. I’m not saying you don’t need it, but you don’t need to run like crazy. Kaspars Markševics, head of the Latvian Children’s Support Fund, expressed his attitude towards this problem to TV24’s “Press Club” program.

He is confused: “Either there isn’t such a price for life anymore, or why do people do this… I guess they think you’re kind of immortal. Personally, I want to go home to my family, to return. Young people probably think differently – they fly, they run, but you can’t run away alone, if something happens, you will run away with a bunch of people around you. That is why the punishment must be raised.”

Ivars Auziņš, a businessman, admits that he often travels abroad and says that he remembers that at first he thought that everyone in Europe was so slow dragsbut he explains it with the overall temperature – with awareness, a healthy lifestyle, sports, a low stress level, an orderly life, so he would support increasing the penalties for speeding, not to mention even getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, for example, imprisonment, regardless of status in society.
