Latvian national airline “airBaltic” has opened the 2024 summer season on Thursday, offering a total of 15 new destinations from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius and Tampere, LETA agency was informed by “airBaltic” representatives.
“airBaltic” notes that the airline’s first flight from Riga to Tirana, Albania, as well as from Riga to Sofia, Bulgaria took place on Thursday.
It is planned that flights between Riga and Tirana will last two hours and 40 minutes, while between Riga and Sofia – two hours and 35 minutes.
Tomas Ramdahls, Senior Vice President of “airBaltic” route network management, states that “airBaltic” route network will expand in Central and South-Eastern Europe with such destinations as Chisinau, Ljubljana, Pristina, Skopje and Tirana.
On the other hand, Laila Odiņa, chairwoman of the board of Riga Airport, notes that “airBaltic” is the most important carrier of Riga Airport, therefore the new summer flights will be an addition to the connectivity of Riga and the Baltic with business and leisure destinations in Europe.
She also added that this year “airBaltic” is strengthening connections towards the Balkans, which is a good opportunity for growth, especially in the field of transit passengers.
LETA already announced that the audited turnover of “airBaltic” last year was 664.289 million euros, which is 33.2% more than in 2022, and the company also made a profit of 33.852 million euros, as opposed to losses the year before.
The Latvian state owns 97.97% of “airBaltic” shares, while “Aircraft Leasing 1” owned by financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tūsen – 2.03%.
