The municipality of Ogre region has concluded an agreement with JSC “Pasažieru vilciens” for the opportunity for students of Ogre region from May 2, 2024 receive municipality-paid train trips from the place of residence to the educational institution and back in the territory of the county between the stops “Ikķile” and “Jumprava”, presenting the Ogre county student card.

“Train traffic in Ogre region is very important – passenger trains run on a long stretch in the territory of the region, providing residents with the opportunity to easily get to work and school. Several municipal educational institutions – both primary and secondary schools – are located near the railway. As early as 2022, we started negotiations with the representatives of JSC “Pasažieru vilciens” on cooperation in connection with the use of the Ogre district student card, so that students are compensated for their trips by train as well. Thanks to the management and specialists of AS “Pasažieru vilciens” for their understanding and responsiveness in jointly solving the simplification of the process of transporting students,” reveals Gints Sīviņš, Deputy Chairman of Ogre County Municipal Council.

Students will be able to get tickets paid for by the municipality at ticket offices in railway stations by presenting Student’s card of Ogre region marked with the holographic sticker “COUNTY” or “TOWN/COUNTY”. It will also need to be shown to the conductor-controller on the train, so that when checking the ticket, the conductor-controller can make sure that the person presenting the Ogre district student card is the student indicated on it.

“This cooperation is a confirmation of the work that AS “Pasažieru vilciens” is doing to develop solutions for municipalities and help them reduce the administrative burden in providing paid trips. The municipality of Ogre region is already the fourth for which we have adapted the passenger registration and ticket payment solution to its needs. Such an opportunity is already being used by the municipalities of Jūrmala, Ādaži and Cēsi regions,” says Raitis Nešpors, chairman of the board of AS “Pasažieru vilciens”.

Outside the box office, the ticket will be issued by the conductor controller on the train. Students who board the train at a stop where there is no train ticket office (“Párogre”, “Ciemupe” and “Jumprava”) will be able to get a ticket from the conductor’s controller.

The fare relief will not apply to the baggage ticket and trips on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.

We remind you that from April 1, the premium for buying a ticket at the conductor’s controller, if the ticket office is open at the station, is one euro.
