At the end of last year’s agricultural season, bringing together more than 100 representatives of farms and organizations related to the sector, the first agricultural and climate technology company was announced in the Kokaru Hall of the large Mežapark stage eAgronom conference dedicated to sustainable agriculture Agriculture fit for the future. Its purpose was the exchange of knowledge and practical experience, so that interested parties related to agriculture in Latvia get to know the challenges of the industry, as well as the most environmentally friendly and efficient soil treatment strategies.

In the first part of the conference, experts from Latvia spoke, who in their presentations shared about the strategic development of the industry, about political aspects, as well as about the challenges of the food and financial sectors due to environmental requirements. On the other hand, in the second part of the event, international experts from England, Estonia and Poland offered an insight into practical solutions on how to introduce more sustainable agricultural practices without losing the profitability of farms.

With a presentation Climate change – myth or reality. Agricultural change – political ambition or necessity the conference was opened by Dina Popluga, professor and leading researcher of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technologies (LBTU), introducing the visitors to the main causes of climate change on a global scale and the manifestations of change in our region. “Transition to sustainable farming is a gradual process, however, it involves radically changing the current practice of how agricultural products were grown and then processed, making these processes more sustainable with as little impact on the climate as possible.
