This year, JAP’s millionth passenger traveled on the 16th route bus

SIA “Jelgavas busu parks” (JAP) manager Gints Burks and Jelgava city council chairman Andris Rāviņš today congratulated Marija Žukova from Jelgava – she is the millionth passenger served by JAP in 2024. As the millionth passenger, on April 26, at 11:34 a.m., the lady left the bus route 16 from the “Rūpniečias uz Tērvetes” stop to her small garden on Zvanu Street.

Jelgavniece says that she uses public transport often on a daily basis – at least three or four times a week – and is grateful for the municipal government’s support for senior citizens, providing 20 free trips per month on city buses with a Jelgava resident’s card. Every day, Mrs. Marija uses one of the six city buses plying on Tērvetes Street to go to the doctor, go shopping to the city center, cemeteries, but in the summer she most often goes to her small garden by bus. “In my district, the provision of public transport is sufficient, and all passengers are always greeted by a smiling driver on the bus. It’s a pleasure to drive,” says Jelgavniece.

The passenger, who was transported on the millionth city bus this year, was presented with a subscription ticket or e-card with 60 free trips and a gift provided by the city. Mrs. Marija is very happy about the gift – she will be able to go to the garden more often this summer.

It should be noted that last year JAP carried 2.817 million passengers on Jelgava important routes, which is 13.3 percent more than the year before. The most passengers are transported on routes 1, 4 and 5 every day. In 2023, 16.8 percent of the transported passengers were senior citizens who registered for the trip with a Jelgava resident card, 20.4 percent were students who paid for the trip using a Jelgava student card. In 28.5 percent of the trips, residents paid with a bank card on the bus, while 14.6 percent purchased and used the JAP e-card.

Last year, the total mileage of buses on important routes of the city of Jelgava was 1.976 million kilometers, and the company performed 192,436 trips in total.
