The Central Library of Latgale (Rīgas iela 22a), continuing the established tradition and organizing events in honor of the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia, in May invites everyone to use the opportunity and come to the library to share personal stories about their family’s most important antique (object, photograph, book, historical document, etc.), which is a long-held family treasure.

The Central Library of Latgale wants to preserve these stories by creating a digital collection “My story. My Latvia”, where the ancient meets the modern.

The digital collection will be published in the Digital Library of the National Library of Latvia – digitalabiblioteka.lv. The digital library brings together content from more than 500 partners’ (archives, museums, libraries, communities, private individuals, etc.) stocks and collections from all over Latvia and the world.

During the meeting at the Central Library of Latgale, the participants will have the opportunity to share their memories and tell the historical story of the antique. Library staff will photograph the item, write or record your story for publication in the digital collection.

Your stories will inspire, give you the opportunity to get to know the destinies of individual people, families and clans. The stories told in the present about the values of the past create a stronger Latvia in the future.

Let’s create a collection of ancient treasures together!

If you want to share your stories, please contact Latgale Central Libraries Marina Stocka, chief bibliographer of the Information Resources and Data Management Department, e-mail: [email protected], phone: (+371) 65476344.
