“Positivus Press” informed LETA agency that Birt hip-hop artist Dizijs Raskals, the pioneer of the “grime” genre, will perform in the “Palladium” concert hall tonight at 8 p.m.
Rascal’s 2002 debut single “I Luv U”, released at the age of sixteen, has been called the same cornerstone of the “grime” music genre as the song “Anarchy in the UK” by the British group “Sex Pistols” in punk rock. A multi-award-winning hip-hop artist, Rascal has been named one of Q’s most influential musicians of the century by music magazine.
“Grime” is a genre of electronic dance music with an average tempo of 140 beats per minute, the emergence of which is explained as the dry residue resulting from mixing together American hip-hop with British “jungle” with “drum’n’bass”, Jamaican “dancehall”. Rascal’s sources of influence were metal and grunge.
At the age of fourteen, he became a “drum’n’bass” DJ, rapping on top of the music. At the age of sixteen, he produced the first single “I Luv U”, which was released by the record company “XL Recordings”. With the release of his debut album “Boy In The Corner” in 2003, Raskal gained wider recognition. For his debut album, he won the Mercury Prize and the Innovation Award from NME magazine. The recording was also included in the “Top 50” of the best 2003 recordings of the American music magazine “Rolling Stone”.
In the following years, Rascal reached the top of the British singles popularity five times – with the songs “Dance wiv Me”, “Bonkers”, “Holida”, “Dirtee Disco” from his fourth album “Tongue n’ Cheek”, released in 2009, and the unofficial England football team the anthem “Shout”, which was written before the 2010 UEFA World Cup games in South Africa.
