Acting deans of six new LU faculties appointed / Article

The following have been appointed acting deans:

• At the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the LU – prof. Jānis Priede;
• At the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Warsaw – prof. Dace Pigeon;
• At the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology of the UL – prof. Linda Daniel;
• LU Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technologies – prof. Zaiga Krišjāne;
• At the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences of LU – doc. Joseph Login;
• At the Faculty of Law of the LU – doc. Edwin Danovsky.

LU noted that the new acting deans of faculties, who will ensure the actual operation of the structural unit from July 1, will have to ensure the continuity of administration, studies and scientific work.

In carrying out their duties until September 30, they must establish the executive directorate of the faculty and appoint acting members of the management team. Also, they will have to develop the faculty regulations and organize council elections. Acting deans will also be responsible for the organization of admission and examination commissions for new students, signing study contracts and organizing registration for studies.

By carrying out internal consolidation, the LU, based on the best practices of Northern European universities, improves the organizational structure in order to increase the competitiveness of the LU, promote the development of personnel and ensure the best possible management of studies and science. The consolidation process ensures the continuity of all LU study and development programs, as well as scientific projects, LU added.

CONTEXT:

However, as a result of the consolidation of the LU, there will be six faculties instead of five, as was previously planned. Such proposal of the rector was supported by the LU Council on April 22.

The initially planned Faculty of Medicine, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science will be divided into two – the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences and the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Technologies.

The consolidation decision on the establishment of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology and the Faculty of Law remains unchanged.
