The youngest Canadian player – 16-year-old forward Gavin McKenna – shone again. He had two goals and four assists in the win against Kazakhstan. McKenna, who is the top favorite for the 2026 NHL draft, finished the group stage with 14 points in four games.
McKenna was the only one on his team to throw more than one puck. On the other hand, for Kazakhstan, all three goals were scored by the first-shift striker Asanalijs Sarkenovs. Although the Kazakhs beat the Czech Republic in extra time yesterday, they failed to avoid the last place in the group, needing three points against Canada.
Thus, Kazakhstan will go to a play-off against Norway to keep their place in the group of top ten teams. On the other hand, Canadian hockey players will play against Latvia on Thursday.
