Approaching May 4 – the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, the destruction of the urban environment for the upcoming holiday has begun. A diverse program of events is also planned for the holidays.

This year, Ventspils has prepared for the 4th of May celebration more specially than other years. There will be a new holiday decoration in the town hall square – a family table four meters long. The Constitution of the Republic of Latvia is printed on the table top and it will be decorated with Latvian national flags and flowers.

We will also feel the approach of the holidays in other places in the city. The “Freedom” decor will be located in the large square with Latvian national flags. A stand with 10 Latvian national flags will be placed in Newspaper Alley near the “Lietussargs” fountain. The decor group “Puzuri” will create a festive mood in the center of Parventa. The Latvian national flags placed on the city’s main streets and major gathering places – Rātslaukum, Tirgus Street, Kuldīgas Street and the center of Pārventas will remind you of the approaching holiday.

May will start with a relationship the comedy “Rhubarb Wine” about the games of two neighbor couples in the Latvian style. The white tablecloth holiday is a way to celebrate Latvia’s birthday – to be together and create a festive feeling in yourself and others. on May 4 at 12.00 In the town hall square, we invite everyone to a festive concert in honor of the anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Latvia, where a unique 20 meter long white linen tablecloth woven in the triniša technique will be presented. The weaving of this tablecloth was started on March 21, when the weavers of the Ventspils Culture Center’s Folk Applied Art Studio “Drellītis” and “Vīkale” put on the warp for the White Linen Tablecloth in the looms of the House of Crafts. The women’s choir of the Ventspils Culture Center “Venda”, the brass band “Ventspils”, the folk dance groups “Kurzeme”, “Senkurzeme”, the middle generation dance group “Strautuguns” and guests – singer and actress Karina Tatarinova and musicians Roberta Dinter, Miku Akota will perform at the concert. and Christian Lindenblatt. Young guards from Ventspils Pärventa elementary school, 2nd elementary school and 2nd secondary school will also take part in the event. Free event.

In the continuation of the celebration, at 16.00 concert hall “Latvija” will perform a concert celebrating the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia. The soloists Gunta Gelgote (soprano), Rinalds Kandalincevs (baritone), Zane Volberga (piano), Gidons Grīnbergs (violin), Ventspils Chamber Orchestra and the mixed choir “Ventspils” will perform compositions by Latvian composers. The conductor, artistic director of the concert is Aigars Meri, and the event will be led by musicologist Liene Jakovljeva. On Monday, on May 6, from 11.00 to 15.00 The bike orientation event “Footprints of Europe in Ventspils” will take place in Ventspils, inviting residents of Ventspils and guests of the city – families, groups of friends and like-minded people – to spend time actively, getting to know important places in Ventspils in an exciting adventure, which have been renovated or built thanks to funding from European Union (EU) funds. Participation in the event is free. We invite you to register your team for the competition in advance by filling out the application form HERE. The team can have from one to four members. The team starts together and finishes together, all team members must be in each point. If there are children under the age of 7 in the team, these team members may not count towards the total number of team members.
