On Friday, a Russian citizen who tried to give a bribe of 30 euros to a border guard was detained at the Grebneva border control point, LETA agency was informed by the State Border Guard.

While administering the queue of trucks, on the A13 highway (Russian border (Grebneva)-Rēzekne-Daugavpils-Lithuanian border (Medumi)), the border guards found a Russian citizen entering Latvia who wanted the border guards to issue a truck control ticket to the truck that will arrive In Latvia in a few days.

The man offered the border guards 30 euros, which was intended as a bribe, so that the border guards would issue a truck control ticket to a vehicle that was not in the truck queue.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against a Russian citizen for bribery in accordance with the first part of Article 323 of the Criminal Law, the person has been recognized as a suspect, and the person has been detained as a security measure.

Bribery can be classified as a serious crime for which, according to the Criminal Code of Latvia, imprisonment for up to five years, temporary imprisonment, forced labor or a fine in the amount of ten to two thousand minimum monthly wages determined by the Republic of Latvia is threatened.
