Latvia’s U-18 ice hockey players made too many mistakes in the first two goals conceded in the world championship match, national team head coach Oļegs Sorokins admitted after the loss.

“I have to take responsibility for not being able to convey to the team how important this game was. The amount of mistakes in the first goal we lost in a row was unbelievable. It was the first time in my life that I told the team before the third period that we -2 could also be suitable,” said Sorokin in a conversation with the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF).

“Perhaps, this match will give an incentive for this championship to end differently. We don’t care who we play in the quarter-finals, because we were quite successful in the test matches,” continued the coach, who admitted that the execution of shots and the execution of the game plan were disappointing.
