Latvians were unsuccessful in the first third, as Latvia did not use the majority in the first nine minutes, and the opponents threw two pucks in their first three shots. In the eighth minute, the Scandinavians played in the majority until Lukas Finkenhagen’s shot in the uncovered corner of the goalkeeper Nil Mauriņš, but after 69 minutes, during the Norwegians’ quick counterattack, Matias Dēli beat Mauriņš.
In the continuation, the Latvians have two more unused majorities, as well as Niklas Oram Olsen’s accurate shot and the result is already 3:0…
At the beginning of the second period, Finkenhagen, the scorer of the first goal, received a 5+20 minute disciplinary penalty for an unauthorized attack on the opponent. In the 26th second of the already long numerical advantage, the Latvians regained one goal, when 16-year-old Daniel Serkin shot the puck into the goal from a short distance. A productive pass for 15-year-old Oliver Mūrnieks, who has 1+2 in this tournament.
The continuation of the rematch did not follow. Instead, in the last six minutes of the second period, Norway not only regained a three-puck advantage, but even made it 5-1, thanks to Karlstad “Färjestad” defender Ludvig Laughton. Mauriņš was replaced by Mika Vecvanagas after this third period.
In the 59th second of the third act, Martins Klaucāns became the second 15-year-old to score in the Latvian team in this tournament. 11 minutes before the end of regular time, Norwegian goalkeeper Markus Valberg was also beaten by Darels Uļjanskis, while the other Latvian efforts to get closer were not fruitful.
However, a reduced margin may come in handy tomorrow. If Slovakia beats Norway by two goals, the third place in the group will go to Latvia. See you in the quarter finals [kā grupas ceturtajai komandai] for the Latvians, any outcome with points scored by Norway, as well as any victory of Slovakia with at least a three-goal lead, is good for the Latvians.
