During the big clean-up, residents of Riga collected more than 90 tons of different types of waste, cleaning in 134 places in the capital, the LETA agency was informed by the Riga City Council.
The Riga City Council’s Territorial Improvement Board (TLP) organized waste removal from 98 municipal cleaning sites applied for this year, while SIA “Rīgas meži”, SIA “Rīgas namu pravādvards”, Riga municipality’s Housing and Environment Department, as well as other cleaners will provide waste removal from 36 cleaning sites. places.
Compared to last year, this year a total of about 22 tons more various waste was removed, of which 32 tons were unsorted household waste, 58 tons of waste were placed in Great Cleanup bags, 19 cubic meters of slate, 52 cubic meters of biological waste (leaves, branches), more than 700 tires as well as other types of waste such as construction debris and bulky waste. TLP will organize the removal of slate, tires, branches and other types of waste during this week.
On the day of the big cleanup, as well as the day after, residents of Riga had the opportunity to hand over the collected tree and shrub leaves at two points in the neighborhood. A total of 102 tons of leaves were removed over two days. The greatest activity of residents in handing over leaves was on April 27 from 9 am to 1 pm, when even queues formed for handing over leaves. For the first time, Riga municipality has provided the possibility of handing over leaves in the spring.
As reported, on Saturday, the Great Cleanup took place throughout Latvia to clean up and improve the surrounding environment.
