The first 20 teachers graduated from the newly created professional competence development program “Cultural events as a learning resource”, learning new methods for the full use of cultural events in the teaching content, the Latvian National Culture Center (LNKC) informed the LETA agency.

The teachers learned more than 40 working methods offered by the instructors, as well as shared their previous experience and made new professional contacts.

The learning took place by studying and analyzing cultural developments, discussing, conducting small studies and evaluating various types of information in two face-to-face and one online seminar. The participants of the program increased their knowledge about the offer of the program “Latvijas skolas soma” in cinema and theater, cultural heritage, literature and book-selling, as well as in other sectors and their integration in learning the content of various fields of study.

Teachers from Riga, Liepāja, Daugavpils, Tukums, Valmiera, Alūksne, Ozolnieki, Škibe and Limbaži participated in the program.

The program was developed by the Educational Development Center on the order of the cultural education program “Latvijas skolas soma” of LNKC. Its graduates are expected to become mentors to other colleagues in their own and neighborhood schools.

On the other hand, the accumulated experience, including approved methods, will be collected in freely available methodical material. It will provide ideas and support for using cultural events as a learning resource for a wider audience of educators.
