Gints Reinsons, head of Riga Civil Defense and Operational Information Administration, comments on this issue.
“There is a section in the VUGD’s guidelines on shelters, which mentions that there should also be a description in tactile braille regarding bomb shelters. That’s one. These people are thought of,” explains Gint Reinsons.
On the other hand, people with hearing impairments have the opportunity to contact VUGD via SMS. There is no reason to say that the protection of such people is not thought about, Reinson emphasizes.
“There are algorithms that need to be developed and passed on. We must try to pass it on to everyone.”
In this case, people with mobility impairments who cannot get to shelters are planned for volunteers and non-governmental organizations that are ready to work at that moment or that are not mobilized to help people get to shelters.
Gints Reinsons explains that we are also thinking about people who already need help on a daily basis: “Within the framework of Lielās Talkas, in the social care center “Mežciems”, we are freeing the rooms suitable for shelter. We will continue our work to ensure that even sleeping patients can be taken to a safer place in case of danger.”
