Among them, absolutely most of the marchers are young people.

Before the march, participants gave speeches in support of the Palestinians for about an hour. The speeches highlighted Israel’s devastating offensive in Gaza, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the deaths of Palestinians, including women and children, and the need for a ceasefire.

Some of the marchers have Palestinian flags of different sizes. Also, some have posters that say, for example, “Two mothers are killed every hour in Gaza”, “75 years of occupation”, “26 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed”, “Genocide is not self-defense”.

At the head of the march, a cloth sign “No to genocide in Gaza” is carried. The slogans are also called: “Free, free Palestine!”, “Truce, truce!”.

The procession is monitored by several police crews.

The march is registered in the municipality from 12:00 to 14:00, and it takes place on the route Neatkarības laukums – K. Valdemāra street – Sporta street – Sporta street 11.

The purpose of the march is to “show solidarity with the Palestinian civilians and demand that the Latvian government resume funding the UN agency for Palestinian refugees”. The application stated that there could be around 200 participants in the event.

The organizers of the march told the LETA agency that they condemn and demand that the Latvian government condemn “Israel’s failure to implement the UN Security Council resolution, which demanded an immediate ceasefire and an urgent increase in the amount of humanitarian aid in Gaza”.

The organizers also demand that the government immediately restore the funding of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and state the reasons for the suspension of funding. Several countries suspended funding to this agency after Israel announced that part of the funds also went to the terrorist organization “Hamas”.
