The association of political parties JAUNAE VIENOTÍBA applies to the Bureau of Prevention and Combating of Corruption (hereinafter KNAB) with a submission regarding the hidden pre-election campaigning against the party association JAUNAE VIENOTÍBA. The party association is suspected of carrying out covert campaigning with the aim of undermining its reputation and reducing the popularity of the party association during the pre-election campaign.

In recent months, the information that has been published in the media against the party association JAUNĆE ÚONÍTÍBA clearly shows a professional direction in damaging the reputation and popularity during the pre-election campaign. Most of the accusations have been made public without informing the law enforcement authorities about them in advance, which indirectly indicates that the main motive of making these accusations public is not to obtain justice, but to show the party association YAUNA UNITY in a negative light. Even now, when the accusations have been made, there are no submissions from the accusers to the specific supervisory and law enforcement institutions.

“What is happening in the public space at the moment is very much like a staged reality show, where every week there is a new episode, in this case – new, unproven accusations against the party alliance – with the aim of weakening it during the primaries. JAUNĀ VIENOTÍBA believes that the selection of a special time – the period of pre-election campaigning – for publicizing the specific news and accusations is also detectable,” emphasizes Signe Jantone, general secretary of the UNITY party.

Clause 6 of the first part of Article 1 of the Law on Pre-Election Campaigning states that covert pre-election campaigning is pre-election campaigning for which payment has been received and the payer (payer) is not specified contrary to the provisions of this law. Section 3, Part 1 of the Law on Pre-Election Campaigning states that covert pre-election campaigning is prohibited.

Also, an essential feature of covert pre-election campaigning is that the information contains an indirect invitation to vote “for” or “against” a political party or candidate for parliament. THE NEW UNION believes that what is happening now is a deliberate and purposeful covert pre-election campaign directed against the party union, and these activities are not related to publicizing information on issues important to society

THE NEW UNITY asks KNAB to conduct an investigation to find out possible sponsors and supporters of the campaign, in order to bring them to justice as provided by law.
