The quality of the investigation in Latvia is at a sufficiently high level, said Vitalijs Polovinskis, deputy head of the State Police’s Department for Combating Economic Crimes, at a press conference on the project related to support to the State Police (SP) for speeding up and improving the quality of investigations of economic crimes in Latvia.
In order to ensure the opportunity to make a significant investment and provide the necessary support in the work of the aforementioned VP structural units, in the fight against economic crimes prevention and combat, on July 3, 2020, the VP started participating in the European Economic Area financial instrument co-financed program project “Support for accelerating the investigation of economic crimes and improving the quality of the VP in Latvia”.
Polivinskis points out that the program allowed VP employees to participate in several exchange events, in which employees gained new knowledge, as well as shared their experience, which is also important for foreign colleagues.
Director of the State Security Agency, Ramona Innus, emphasized that participation in the program made it possible to invest 6.2 million euros in the repair of two buildings. Normunds Grūbis, deputy head of the VP, project manager, informed that the investment is essential because it improves the working conditions of the employees.
The main activities implemented in the project were the improvement of infrastructure and technical capabilities; improvement of professional knowledge in the field of economic crime investigation and expertise by organizing seminars, practical trainings, experience exchange trips and international conferences.
