For several years, there has been a kind of unique tradition in Talsi region, where students of pre-school educational institutions meet for the orchestra parade. The range of instruments is wide – from real musical instruments to a mixer broom. It is a joyful event for children, but meanwhile, educators emphasize the importance of a sense of rhythm in human life and development. The organizers estimate that they are the only ones in Latvia to have established such an event.

Did you know that a musical instrument can simply be a balloon? Already with the first performances of the orchestra parade, educators proved their creativity. The young musicians are armed with various instruments and also dressed up in various characters.

This time, in the orchestra parade, the performances of 13 pre-school educational institutions of Talsa region. There are no conditions to participate – each teacher chooses one of his groups, regardless of their age, and stages a performance. When asked how such a group of children with such a precise performance can be gathered together, Elizabete Vizuma, teacher of Talsu PII “Sprīdītis”, answers: It is training, just regular training, and the main thing is that everyone is always happy. Let no one be unwilling to come.”

“Looks easy, doesn’t it? But the work is very big at the bottom, so that children can play music in preschool. They have very few years. And there is always some kind of surprise. I think there was a very colorful orchestra parade this year,” says Erika Griva, teacher of Laidze PII “Papardīte”.

Eight years ago, the idea of the orchestra parade arose to draw the attention of colleagues to rhythm games, which, first of all, bring joy to children, but at the same time also develop the child’s attention, memory, thinking and creativity. “Covid-19 years have shown that if there are no such events, if it is not so possible to engage in music and rhythm with rhythm games, then children’s attention activity drops sharply. Educators themselves, group pedagogues, preschool teachers said at that time that the child can no longer do as much as he was able to do before,” says Baiba Brice, author and organizer of the idea.

Orchestra parade also teaches children to perform and also to watch others’ performances, behavior culture. Brice: “I see how not only the ability, imagination and imagination of children and teachers is growing, but also, fortunately, the stock of musical instruments in preschools is growing. Okay, it’s interesting to play some such homemade instruments for once, but we should strive to have good sound instruments, good musical instruments in every kindergarten throughout Latvia.

Therefore, to see what it is really like to play real musical instruments, the children were able to see a performance dedicated to them by the students of the music school.
