What is the transition of “Latvijas Red Krusts” association to 8-hour working hours in Gulbene? A reader asked this question to “Zirkstele”.

Content will continue after the ad.

He also asks: “What changes significantly in the association’s work and services in Gulbene?” Why are used clothes donated by residents then offered to people for a fee in the association? What is the internal policy regarding ethics, discretion, dealing with clients? Does it carry over to social media? Can anyone call the “Latvijas Red Cross” without worry, come and ask, and also receive services or help?”

In this regard, “Dzirkstele” asked the general secretary of “Latvijas Sarkanais Krusts” association Uldis Līkops for a comment. He writes: “Questions about the “Latvian Red Cross” have been discussed many times, including in the columns of the newspaper “Dzirkstele”. During the 105 years since the Latvian Red Cross National Society has been working in Latvia, there have been no changes in the basic principles and goal settings (in detail – “www.redcross.lv”) – we help those who need help, without separating people by nationality, religion, gender or belonging to a political force. Assistance is provided in cooperation with the local government (premises, possible cooperation agreements), with residents (donations and voluntary involvement), European Union projects (support package program for poor residents), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (support programs for Ukrainian civilians), as well as with other non-governmental and governmental institutions.

Longer working hours at the Gulbene office mean – we are glad that we can provide the assistance to residents more often and for longer. This will continue to be a common policy: to be ever closer and more accessible.

Returning to the topic discussed many times in the newspaper “Dzirkstele” about the voluntary donations of citizens and the further use of donations. First of all, we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all donors, adding that we also receive donations from our partners in Germany, Norway, USA and others. The use of donations is limited by the donor’s settings. If the donor has not expressed such, the donations are used in the common order. Undoubtedly, discretion and humane relationships and communication are important. If it seems that something is wrong in this regard, please provide specific information so that we can evaluate it and act accordingly. In case of any questions or uncertainties, please contact Vivita Ķikula, executive director of the “Latvijas Red Cross” Vidzeme Committee: [email protected].”
