According to the regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of May 14, 2019 no. 194 “Regulations of the Diaspora Advisory Council” 6.19. paragraph, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces applications for two non-permanent representative positions in the Diaspora Advisory Council.

The basic criterion for nomination is that the association, foundation or diaspora organization must operate for at least two years in a field related to one of the goals of the Diaspora Law.

To apply, please fill out the application form below, stating the name of the association, foundation or diaspora organization, motivation for participating in the Diaspora Advisory Council and previous experience working with the diaspora. A copy of the organization’s registration certificate must also be attached to the application.

Please submit an application up to for May 24, 2024 (including), by sending the necessary documents to [email protected]

Applications will be presented to all members of the Diaspora Advisory Council. The election of non-permanent representatives of the Council will be held on June 7, 2024 at the meeting of the Diaspora Advisory Council.

According to the regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of May 14, 2019 no. 194 “Regulations of the Diaspora Advisory Council” 6.19. subsection, the term of office of J. Skrebels, representative of the association “Eiropas Jaunieši” and V. Hibšmanes, representative of the association “Economic cooperation and investments for Latvia” in the Diaspora Advisory Council is set until July 11, 2024. The mandate of the newly elected non-permanent council representatives will begin on July 12, 2024. The powers will be valid until July 11, 2025.

The Diaspora Advisory Council is an advisory body whose purpose is to facilitate the development of a coherent diaspora policy and the annual setting of priorities, as well as the implementation and evaluation of the diaspora policy. The basic principles of the Council’s operation are determined in the Diaspora Law, which entered into force on January 1, 2019.

The Diaspora Advisory Council was established on May 14, 2019, and 26 organizations operate in it – delegated representatives of state administrative institutions, municipalities, diaspora organizations, associations and foundations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the responsible institution for organizing the work of the Diaspora Advisory Council.
