at 11, a parade of units and equipment of Latvian and foreign armed forces, the State Border Guard, the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police and the Young Guard will take place at the Latgale Liberation Monument “United Latvia”. Aviation flights will add to the debt.

Where the next parade will take place, the Minister of Defense of Latvia will announce after the parade in Rēzekne.

The commander of the NBS, Lieutenant General Leonids Kalniņš, admitted that the parade will also be able to see military equipment, and if the weather conditions are good, also air force demonstrations: “Latvian NBS armored vehicles and various types of platforms will be represented, and our allies will also arrive with heavy weapons. The amount of equipment will exceed more than 110 units. It will be interesting for the youth, there will also be an opportunity to approach the tables and try on the equipment. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the possible service.”

The parade can be watched live on Latvian Television and on the news portal LSM.lv.

After the parade, there will be other events dedicated to the Freedom Festival in Rēzekne, including the opportunity to see the equipment of the NBS and Ministry of the Interior institutions, a demonstration of special operations forces, as well as demonstration of canine dogs of the Military Police and the State Border Guard.

Traditionally, on May 4, NBS organizes a military parade in one of the historical regions of Latvia. Last year it took place in Vidzeme, Alūksne, but this year it is an honor for Latgale, for the city in the heart of Latgale – Rēzekne, to host this particularly important and historic Latvian national holiday event.

In 2012, the defense industry started organizing NBS Day in one of the regional centers of Latvia to introduce NBS also to those residents who do not have the opportunity to attend the traditional national holiday parade on November 18 in Riga. The first such day in 2012 took place in Rēzekne. Where the next parade will take place, the Minister of Defense of Latvia will announce after the parade in Rēzekne.

Since 2013, these events have been held under the motto “May 4th – Freedom Festival”.
