Last year, out of the eight submitted ideas, residents voted for two projects the most – with 568 votes, the idea of creating a picnic area with grills available to residents on Uzvaras Street near Driksas came first. In second place, with 522 votes, the residents’ initiative “Building values!”, which envisages building a children’s sports and playground in the Roma Street area, won.

After the end of the competition, the municipality announced a procurement for the realization of both ideas. As a result of the procurement, the contractors were identified at the end of the year, and this spring, as soon as the weather permitted, construction work began.

As informed by the municipal institution “Pilsētsaimniecība”, which organizes the implementation of the ideas of participation projects, three wooden sheds with stationary chairs and a table are planned to be installed for the creation of a picnic area near Driksa, with a waste bin and a stationary grill at each shed, as well as one solid wood table with benches. In total, four picnic areas will be created there. Currently, the territory has already been cleared of vegetation and leveled. The works are expected to be completed in June, and they are being carried out by SIA “Dārzavarde”. The total cost of the project is 8604 euros.

On the other hand, the second project envisages the construction of a new playground on Spāru street opposite land properties No. 44 and No. 46 with a sand cover and two playground equipment. One play complex is intended for children from 6 to 14 years of age, including a double swing with two children’s seats, which will be suitable for children up to 14 years of age. One exercise machine will be installed for young people from the age of 14. An informative sign will be placed near the field, which will indicate the institution responsible for the maintenance of the field, as well as the rules that must be followed by visitors to the field. The new playground is expected to be built by September. The works will be carried out by SIA “Jūrmalas mežaparki”, and the total cost of the project is 19,907.38 euros.

It should be reminded that until April 30 at 12 o’clock, residents can submit their applications for this year’s participation project ideas implementation competition. This year, 40,000 euros have been allocated in the municipal budget for the implementation of new competition ideas. The main rules – the project idea is implemented by the municipality, provided that the financing of one project does not exceed 20,000 euros, including all taxes and fees, as well as possible cost increases during the project implementation stage.
