In 2018, the Austrian Prosecutor’s Office announced to the LETA agency that Vashkevich’s extradition to Latvia is not possible, as his health condition precludes any kind of transportation.

The TV3 program “Nothing personal” reported that the claims about Vashkevich’s alleged poor health could be lies, because the creators of the film “Neertais Vashkevich. Attack on the State” intended for the defense of the former law enforcement officer saw that he was acting.

“Nothing personal” once reported that the “black” materials of the film made in Vashkevich’s defense show that a large number of experts speak from pre-written texts and that Austrian doctor David Visoki is actually a friend of Vashkevich’s family. For example, the black materials contain footage of Vaškevič’s spouse Ināra Vilkaste helping Vaškevič get into a wheelchair. Washkevich does not speak, but communicates with signs, while a film crew can be heard in the background, forcing the episode to be reshot several times because Washkevich moves too quickly and too independently. In one episode, Vashkevich freely gets up from his wheelchair to close the door, even though he previously allegedly needed help to sit in the chair.

The Latvian Prosecutor’s Office announced after the “Nothing Personal” story that it would take into account what was mentioned in the story as additional information describing the situation, but the Prosecutor’s Office had already obtained evidence that Vaškevičs had obstructed the progress of the criminal process, including while still in Latvia.

In Vashkevich’s case, the proceedings were later resumed and now the case is being heard in court without the presence of the accused himself.

In 2007, Vashkevičs, the head of the Criminal Administration of the SRS Customs at the time, was injured in an explosion organized by criminals. The bomb was placed under Vaskevich’s car.
