Municipal police in Bauskas district will start catching speed breakers – BauskasDzive.lv

In the Bauska region, the municipal police will soon also monitor compliance with the permitted speed, control will be carried out in various places in the administrative territory of the Bauska region, including based on the information provided by the public and complaints, the portal was informed by the Bauska region council.

“In the near future, it is planned to equip the police car of the municipality of Bauska region with a speed radar, the measuring device costs around six thousand euros. When we receive signals from residents, for example, as was the case with Kraujas Street in Bauska, then we will go to such places and come to the rescue. Even in Vecumnieko, problem areas appear from time to time, where speed is exceeded more often. On the other hand, there are no plans to buy mobile radars yet,” explains Bronislavs Ostrovskis, head of the municipal police of Bauska region.

On the other hand, the Deputy Chairman of the Bauska County Council, Aivars Maceks, states that speed control is not a priority of the municipal police: “Our municipal police will not fulfill the functions of the State Police, because there are many other duties. We can help where the State Police cannot come at that particular moment.”

It should be mentioned that on July 6, 2023, changes to the “Road Traffic Act” entered into force, which provide that the Municipal Police also controls compliance with road traffic rules and has the right to stop the vehicle, as well as ask for documents.

For resisting the legal requirements of officials, a warning or a fine of up to 700 euros may be applied to a natural person.
