Research and exploratory thinking is a very important skill for the future. We usually associate research with scientists, but investigative thinking can be developed already in preschool. Studying and observing different processes trains skills that will be especially important for astronauts!

We study the functions of an astronaut’s suit

The conditions in space are very harsh – very cold in the shade alternates with very hot in the sun. At the same time, the astronaut is also threatened by various dangerous radiations and small but very fast meteorites, which are more dangerous than bullets. But despite these dangers, astronauts sometimes go on missions outside the safe haven of a spacecraft or space station. But first you need to dress appropriately. Do you know how important each layer of clothing in an astronaut suit is? Dress up your astronaut and keep him safe!

The aim: Promote the development of accuracy and diligence skills

Number of participants: one or more

Materials: Pieces of fabric and other materials of different materials, scissors, glue, template

Preparation:

1. Print the astronaut shape template.
2. Prepare pieces of fabric of different material.
3. Prepare the accessories and set up the work environment.

Task:

Participants organize the found materials that could perform different functions of an astronaut suit. After that, an astronaut silhouette is cut out of these pieces according to the template and glued in layers. Finally, the astronaut’s helmet glass is made in the size of the template head (or slightly smaller), which protects the astronaut from the bright light. The result is an astronaut who is ready for a mission in space!
