The football season for girls will also start soon, and this year its central event will be the “Lidl” girls’ summer championship, which will also continue indoors during the winter season. “Lidl” will cooperate with LFF to be able to organize these championships from U-8 to U-16 age groups.

Macejs Urbanskis, chairman of the board of Lidl Latvija: “Every one of us has played ball in the yard once as a child. Football is usually perceived as a manly sport, but it is not only for boys and men. There is strength in diversity, because thanks to it we can achieve more together and see wider horizons. Also “Lidl” value diversity, inclusion and a healthy lifestyle in their daily life, that’s why we have decided to support girls’ football in Latvia. This segment is one of the most important, because it is developing the fastest in the world, so in Latvia it needs discount. For additional sponsorship, we will also support with various equipment, so this support will also be visible physically. We hope that with the support of “Lidl” girls’ football in Latvia will be raised to the next level and another girl will fall in love with this game, who in the future will be able to fulfill her dream of playing in the Latvian women’s football team, with whom we can reach new heights of victory.”

General Secretary of LFF Arturs Gaidel: “Girls’ football and the work on attracting young players also occupy a special place in the upcoming LFF development strategy for 2025-2030, where women and Grassroots football development is among the leading pillars of our work. The Girls’ Championship is a very important platform for these two segments, so strengthening it with such a supporter is a big event and an additional encouragement on the way to the goals of the Muses. Together with such knowledgeable and determined partners, we want to develop girls’ and women’s football as a platform for success, take advantage of the growing popularity and eventually make women’s football the most extensive sport of the fair sex in Latvia.”

Head of LFF Development Department Nina Travkina: “Girls and women’s football has developed and expanded significantly in recent years, as evidenced by both the growing number of participants and the introduction of new age groups in girls’ competitions. The demand for girls’ football lessons is high, but we try to keep up with the times and global trends, where women’s football has announced itself as perhaps the fastest growing sport at the global level. That is why one of our strategic goals is to make women’s football the most massive women’s team sport in the country in the coming years. The shoulder of such a supporter and the systematic work with the development of the girls’ championships will definitely bring us closer to this ambitious goal to desire.”

Head of LFF Marketing and Communication Department, Renars Krüger: “We are really proud that such a well-loved brand in the world has become our sponsor of one of the most important segments of football. I believe that girls’ football championships will take off and help girls fulfill their dreams.”
