Not only employees, but also visitors have the opportunity to use wireless internet for free in the administration building of Gulbene region municipality. Everyone can use both state and local government websites, its social networks, including Facebook, Instagram and even TikTok, on their phone. However, the “Zzirkstele” portal, which is known to be reflected, is not available information directly related to Gulbene county and municipality work.

On April 25, after the open part of the county council meeting (held on the 2nd floor of the municipality’s administration building), “Dzirkstele” questioned the head of the Information Technology Competence Center of the municipality’s administration, Renārs Biezo. When asked why free wireless Internet users cannot open the “Zirksteles” portal, he answered: “It is not allowed in the internal network.” The order is said to have been given by the management. “This is historic,” he said, adding that it has been the case for several years.

The executive director of the municipality, Antra Sprudzāne, told the newspaper that she did not issue an order restricting access to the “Dzirkstele” portal.

The deputy chairman of the county council, Guna Švika, explained to “Dzirkstele”: “It will not be a question for me. This will be a question that concerns another previous convocation (at that time the head of the county municipality was Normunds Audzišs – ed.). Thank you for a reminder. Let’s discuss this matter.”

Also on the 1st floor of the municipal administration building, where the unified customer service center of the State and municipality is located and where wireless free access internet with a different address works, you can also open and read various websites, including entertainment ones, but the “Dzirkstele” portal is not available. Larisa Cīrule, the senior customer service specialist of the mentioned center, could not explain such a situation to the newspaper.

The newspaper “Dzirkstele” is published and the portal with the same name is maintained by a company registered in Gulbene – SIA “Dzirkstele”. The chairman of the board of the company is Uldis Salminņš, who also works in the Association of Latvian Press Publishers.
