German sports car maker Porsche said on Thursday that it has recalled several thousand of its all-electric Taycan cars due to the risk that their batteries could catch fire.
A company spokesperson said damaged cells in some batteries could cause a short circuit and catch fire.
About 858 Taycans were initially recalled in January, but after further testing, Porsche concluded that several more cars could be at risk.
The company explains that anomalies were detected in 2,936 cars, which made it necessary to replace their battery modules.
Another 4,522 “Taycan” cars have not been inspected, and customers need to take them to workshops for inspections.
“Taycan” battery cells are produced by the South Korean company LG, but the batteries themselves are assembled in Germany, at Porsche’s Cufenhausen plant, before being installed in cars.
