The spatial illustrations of Ziedonis’s colorful fairy tales created by Latvian artist Ināra Liepa and exhibition co-author Ulda Liepa are one slightly different episode in this “expansion of geography” circle, in which the authors present their stories.

For Ināra and Uldi, Imanta Ziedoņas’ path in Latvian culture, life and history is connected with experimentation, openness to new breezes and inexhaustible creative searches – always being on the road, in motion – as the poet himself loved it. In the 1990s, in cooperation with Ramon Umblija and Imanta Ziedoni, as the head of the Latvian Culture Fund, artists were given the opportunity to realize many art projects, including for children’s audiences, art scholar Gundega Cēbere tells the “tv3.lv” portal.

The exhibition was largely inspired by the works of Imantas Ziedonis, but the authors retain their own handwriting, as well as their attitude towards what is currently happening in the world.

In the life of Ziedonis, experiment and everyday life have existed in parallel, the brilliance of fame, creative power and simple, everyday humanity.

He has felt and powerfully used the expressiveness of language, thinking in metaphors about the great connections in the destinies of humanity and people in the course of history, about the possibility of art influencing the understanding of values in society, Cēbere explains.

The art scholar emphasizes that the poet combines the 20th century in his works. the traditions of modernism, the high principles of pure art with the contemporary position of a socially active artist. He has taught to carefully create Latvian cultural values, to awaken respect and pride for them.

Ziedonis’ actions were based on principle – to strengthen the Latvian identity and spirit. The poet’s life experience in its richness and diversity is unique, with the breath of the world inherent in his spirit and work. The personality of Imantas Ziedonis is the one that determined the logic, sequence and course of many things.

The opening, which took place on May 3, was attended by Kristīne Lauriņa, the secretary of the Latvian representation in Strastbūra and the head of the project in Strastbūra, as well as the author of the idea for translating and publishing fairy tales in French. Frenchman Pierre Marchant, publisher of the book in French. The opening of the exhibition was honored by Ramona Umblija, art scholar and contemporary of Imantas Ziedoņis, and Ilze Ramane, advertising artist of the exhibition. ODali, creator of Imanta Ziedoņa’s Zilā pasakas sand cinema, surprised the guests with a specially created short film for the audience.
